Fun and Easy Idea for Dinner – Pizza by Kids!
I love my kids. I don’t always love dinner time.
The biggest issue is that our kids are polar opposits-one love ketchup, the other mustard-one sausage biscuits, the other toast…so, in our home we have a fun solution-Personal Pizza Night!
Personal Pizza Night is a real crowd pleaser because the kids get to put their favorite toppings on their very own pizza and they have the pride of making their very own dinner. It also works out for mom and dad because they can get exactly what they want, and even someone eating light can enjoy their own personal pizza using healthy topping options.
For a successful Personal Pizza night, we have a few tips:
*Prep makes pizza making so much easier. Opt for the pre shredded cheese, sliced pepperoni and cut up any other toppins before calling everyone in to assemble their pizzas.
*If time is an issue, or if you have never made pizza dough from scratch, look in the refridgerator section of your grocery store for roll out pizza dough or you could use Boboli’s ready to use dough. (If you have the time, though, a home made pizza dough is not only delicious, it is a great opportunity for you to show your kids how the dough rises with the yeast-my kids love that part- and let them help out kneading the dough and feeding the yeast)
*Until your kids have made a few pizzas, add their sauce for them-and less it more ![]()
*Buy extra Mozzerella Cheese-you don’t want to run out before everyone’s pizza is made
*Before calling everyone in to make their pizza, make a tossed salad and stick it in the fridge. When the pizzas go in the oven, serve everyone a salad to start the meal. They already have rumbling tummies from being around all of the pizza goodies which will help them eat their veggies up while the pizza cooks.
Items you will need:
Pizza dough (home made, roll out or ready to use)
Pizza Sauce
Mozzerella Cheese
Pepperoni
Other toppings to consider:
Chopped onions
Sliced Olives (black and green)
Sliced Mushrooms
Chopped Bell Pepper
Pickled Jalepeno Slices
Artichocke hearts
Canadian Bacon (or ham)
Pineapple Chunks
Sausage
Left over meats diced (burger patties, chicken, steak, shrimp, etc)
Sausage (Italian, Polish or breakfast all work well)
Brocoli
Marinated Veggies (Squash and Zuccini tossed in itialian dressing and refridgerated for 30 minutes or more-even overnight)
Dried tomatos
Parmeasan Cheese
Cooked and seasoned ground beef or ground turkey
…you get the idea. The point is there’s no wrong way to make your pizza as long as everyone puts what they like and it is a great way to use up left overs. Speaking of left overs, we usually end up with a few slices of each pizza left which kids love to eat cold for breakfast or for a quick and easy lunch.
Enjoy!
