Back to School Shopping Is Here

Can you believe that it is already time to start thinking about back to school shopping…again?! For some of you, school is just a couple of weeks away, and others have a month or so but either way the back to school shopping is eminent.

Every year families find themselves doing the last minute dash to get everything before time runs out, while others plan their shopping out at the beginning of summer and pick things up through out the break. I’m usually a last minuter with great intentions. In fact, my kids have learned to resent the whole process because it usually entails hours at the mall, trying on countless outfits until we are all ready to go home, and they are agreeing with any outfit to make that happen faster. This always leads to the inevitable,

“Mom, that’s not my style”

…being tossed around while I hold brand new clothes-tags off at the point of the revelation, ofcourse-my mouth agape wondering why they did it to me again-why after my countless speeches on how you don’t have to say you like it if you don’t because it is a waste of money and how I understand that they want to be individuals, and support them, and won’t pressure them to wear anything they don’t like…I find myself with only 3-5 outfits from the lot that they are willing to wear – and at least 45% of those selected items will make them roll their eyes or sigh in despair as they wear it….

“Well…If I must”

Now that I think about it, I probably look forward to school shopping the LEAST of all. But, this year is going to be different.

This year I’m starting early. This year we are buying one or two outfits at a time then leaving the mall completely. We are waking up early, eating a good breakfast and putting on our happy faces and promising to keep our visits to the stores short-no longer than an hour, tops. This year really will be different, and they will love everything that I buy….right? I mean, they are picking this stuff out so liking it should be a given….right?
